MadeOn Hard Lotion Review

I am also not a medical doctor, nor do I intend to diagnose, treat, or manage anything. This is just my anecdotal experience. I decided to write this review after purchasing and trying MadeOn products. I liked them so much I decided to share them with you too.
History: Renee founded MadeOn after trying to find a solution to the dry skin issues she and her family had. Her products worked for them, and eventually they began to share with family and friends who began to share with their family and friends, and thus a successful business was born. For over a decade Renee and her family have been providing high quality, hand crafted lotion bars and soap (produced on commission by Mountain Girl Soap) to the wider community. And, even more amazing, is that Renee believes so much in her product, that she has many of the formulations available on the blog for free, if you would rather make your own. Each lotion you purchase is labeled with the date it was made, hence the name MadeOn.

On to the review. The backs of my hands often become so dry in the winter that they crack and are very painful. I'd tried many lotions, both conventional and otherwise, and hadn't found any to be effective. The fragrance in conventional lotion often bothers my eyes, and the natural products left my hands feeling greasy/oily (I really really don't like feeling like my skin is greasy or oily), and just weren't effective. However, I've noticed different bases (shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa butter, etc.) seem to produce different results for different people, and figured I just hadn't found the right formulation for me. Turns out I was right.
I became aware of MadeOn through the newsletter from Katie Kimball at Kitchen Stewardship (not an affiliate link). I decided to give the travel box a try. It came with a pocket size original Beesilk bar, a small shampoo bar, and original scent Beesilk lip balm. I also bought a few pocket size scented lotions to give as gifts. The hard lotions come in little tins with hinged lids, wrapped in paper. The original scent has a light honey fragrance due to the high quality unbleached beeswax used. The other ingredients are coconut oil and naturally refined shea butter. Since I also don't like the feel of lotion on my palms, I held the bar in the paper and rubbed it on the backs of my hands. I was relieved to find it was immediately soothing, not greasy, and then I went to bed. By morning my hands looked and felt as though they hadn't been dry at all the night before. Results obviously vary on how frequently one applies, but I was super impressed with how quickly I experienced relief.
Needless to say, I bought more products. I decided to try the frankincense and myrrh pocket bar (seasonal), and the Soothing Rash Cream, as the baby had a little bit of a rash that our usually very effective Radiantly You Booty Balm wasn't working on. The rash cream worked wonderfully, and now I switch between MadeOn's cream and the RY Boot Balm at whim.
I reserve the frank & myrrh for facial moisturizer on Sundays, or when I want to feel fancy. It has gold colored mica flakes, which add a nice little shimmer, and I feel "done up" when I use it (I don't like the feel of full face makeup, so there is little I typically do in the way of "beautifying" myself). Both frankincense and myrrh have anti-aging properties, which is an added bonus.
I am impatiently waiting for my RY lip balm to run out, so I can give the MadeOn balm a good run for its money. My lips are almost always chapped but *tip* I've found they stay healthy longer if the rest of my face is regularly moisturized. The Radiantly You lip balm was the first I had found that actually worked for me, though lanolin also worked when even that wouldn't this past fall.
I am currently waiting for more Beesilk and some Beesilk Jr. to arrive. Beesilk Jr. is a softer lotion made with the same ingredients, better for covering larger areas of skin. Also a Mystery Bag, because why not?
If you were wondering about the opinion of those who received scented pocket bars as gifts, they also love them!

Now for the shampoo bar. About 6 years ago I made the transition from conventional shampoo and conditioner to all natural shampoo bars. So my experience switching from my old bar to MadeOn's will be very different from that of someone going to this shampoo bar from conventional shampoo. That being said, I've enjoyed this new bar very much. I love the scent, that my hair gets clean without becoming dried out, and I don't have to wash it more than twice a week, because I'm lazy when it comes to self care. I forgot to mention that we got a couple of Bay Rum scented goat milk soaps (seasonal) as well. I love their spicy scent, and how moisturized my skin feels after a shower. MadeOn's soaps are produced by Naomi at Mountain Girl Soap (not an affiliate link). Of course, I took the time to look up Mountain Girl Soap, subscribed to the newsletter, and took advantage of the sale she just had on soap ends, so I will have lots more soap testing to do. Except I don't know what scents they are, because they weren't labeled. Guess I will email her and see if she can tell me based on pictures.

Guess that concludes my written review. Pictures to follow.
